Outer Boundaries layout

This is a layout from Element. This is my first impressions which is out 4 different versions.  I sometimes pull in too close and miss the mystery in a scene.  I"m aiming to make that weakness into a strength, pulling away where I can at different points in the story: Establishing shots.

MY ART MY SPACE

I have the best work space setup of my life!!!

Now, I have had some great tables, computers, studios, but none have compared to my current work-space, which I built and pieced together over the years.

When I moved to Lubbock, TX I had a 2009, 20" Imac that did everything I needed at the time, but with 4GB of ram it was extremely slow and I was using a 12" cintiq. I wanted to replace the whole setup, but I wanted a good table first. So one day with Yaz, I brought this drafting table from World Market, it was an impulse buy, no idea how it was going to really turn out. I then bought a Mac Mini for business, which speed up my production, with more R.A.M. Honestly I needed a Mac Pro and life would be easy from a R.A.M P.O.V. When I brought the 22" cintiq I thought my setup was perfect, and for awhile it was.

Then Yaz and I moved to L.A. I took in the sun and let it influence a healthier lifestyle, but I noticed one huge problem. My table, although beautiful, it was leaving me in a sedentary position, cutting off circulation, giving my legs the serious cramps and I had been down this road before, blood clots!

Life as an artist is not hard, but if your not careful the sedentary nature of the lifestyle causes other problems. If not aware, you can lose muscle, cause tightness overtime and a lot of other serious issues. Long story short, a brother wanted to stretch his legs!!!

I saw the Varidesk commercial and said "that's what I want!" To stand and work when I want!! One of my 1st tables was an architectures desk made of metal. I was able to stand and sit when I wanted and was able to stretch my legs. I wanted that ability again!

I came from that mindset "I can build that" Yaz cracks on me about it ;-) But if it wasn't for this mindset the place wouldn't look the way it does. Having built our entertainment systems in all three rooms, hung up the TV's on the wall, to hiding their cable wires, I would say I am a bit of a handy man ;-). My father was a carpenter on the side, so I picked up a few tricks along the way to build a stand up table for my current situation.

So Yaz and I went to Home Depot, made some friends and come up with a strategy to heighten the legs on the beautiful table from World Market. I came up with the idea to uses metal pipes as legs and three planks of wood.

With a 5/8 drill bit, I drilled four holes on each side of the planks of wood to match the 5/8 hole the metal pipes had, to create a brace for the bottom legs of the drafting table to two of the pieces of the wooden brace.

With 5/8 screws and blots to fasten the brace to the pipes, I then turn the table on it's ridge side up and I now have a great solid stand up table.

Messiah and Prince have been sharping their nails on my chair, so I used it as an excuse to replace it was a taller height adjustable chair, along with a warranty. This time to cover any KAT accidents, I mean "human" wear and tear ;-D

Okay, so I got a taller standing drafting table, but I still use a TV screen for my Mac Mini (3D flatscreen, they're so cheap today) and a cintiq. As you can see, potentially too much on my table leaving me NO room for drawing. UH, UH, CAN'T HAVE THAT!!!!!

Believe it or not, I still draw on paper. For a few years, I was strictly digital drawing and learned a lot, but I love drawing lines with pencils, pens and inks!!! Another post on that some other time. Back to the story, I need my cintiq and monitor off my damn table! so back to Home Depot I want!

This was easy, buy a shelf and two brackets. Ok, got the TV set, but what about the Mac Mini??? If you know me, you know that a huge pet peeve of mine is having electronics setup with bad cable arrangements. If I can help it, I'd like to see no wires at all, and because we all know computers fail, I don't want to waist my time with tangled wires when trying to fix it in the back. So I bought an extra small shelf and I added to the inside of my drafting table, hiding my Mac Mini. The wires it created, I systematically grouped together according to it's purpose. Hidden behind my table are also hard-drives, which flash blue lights to me know they working.

Last order of business are the keyboards and cintiq. They're still on the table, and I can't build a good setup for these two items, and believe me I thought on it for a LONG TIME!!! (two months)

In comes the Ergotron Arm, for the cintiq, it completely opened up my table for drawing!!! it was my aim from the gate, along with my heighten table.

I bought a better keyboard tray to replace the busted Staples version that was nailed in one place, and I replaced it with one that swings from side to side with a hide-able track.

MY SETUP IS PERFECT!

Some of you are saying " buy the Varidesk" or another height adjustable table out there and I was right there with you, as I almost brought 3 different tables and I figured the drafting table would be for an assistant in the future. But a voice (YAZ) kept telling me how nice and beautiful the table was, I felt I had to make better use of it, before getting another table.

I'm glad I did, because it gives the room an ambiance, that I feel is perfect, for creating Art. If I want to paint, my paints are in position to be cracked open, if I want to draw all of the table is available to me. I really do not have a need to leave and time files in here. It helps to have a great setup and I am very fortunate for my space!

Best,

KT
